Spare a thought for our little friends in the snow!

When the snows come down our feathered friends struggle to find much food on the shrubs and trees, looking for scraps their human friends might leave out! That is why we need to give them a helping hand with fat and seed balls in netting hung from branches around your garden.
If you cannot make it to the garden centre or pet shop for one of these, you can improvise yourselves. My boys and i melted lard in a saucepan, pour in seed and nuts with a bit of flour.Form into a workable ball, get either some netting or an old pair of tights, cut a leg off with 18'' in lengh, stuff mixture in,tie a knot tight near the formed ball of rich mixture.Carefully make some holes all round for the birds to peck the food.Hang on a branch, then watch how many birds enjoy this snack and swing!
